President Mahama says there are just 30 political appointments at Jubilee House.

Just 30 political appointees presently hold positions in the Jubilee House, according to President John Dramani Mahama, who has reaffirmed his commitment to leading a lean government.

He emphasized that this strategy is consistent with his pledge to cut government expenditures and guarantee improved governance effectiveness.

Mahama’s comments followed accusations by Samuel Abu Jinapor, the Member of Parliament for Damongo, that his government had appointed too many ministers and presidential staff members.

The President vehemently denied these allegations, emphasizing that 336 political appointees held the position of president in the previous government alone.

These remarks were given by President Mahama on Wednesday, March 12, at the Jubilee House in Accra at the swearing-in ceremony of recently appointed ministers and deputy ministers.

He went on to explain that of the 30 political appointees, three are directors of important government projects and 27 are presidential staffers, all of whom are seeking Council of State clearance.

“The appointments made at the presidency so far have found expression in the same commitment to composing a lean government,” he said.

He promised, “The numbers will not even approach the army of people hired under the previous government, even though we are in the process of recruiting supporting staff to enable the full functioning of our presidency.”

“To reach the full complement of sixty ministers that we promised, I will submit the final list of four deputy ministers this week,” he said.

As of right now, Parliament has authorized and nominated 56 ministers.

The President thanked Parliament for approving the proposal so quickly, stating that it was the quickest under Ghana’s Fourth Republic.

“We have received the earliest possible permission from Parliament for ministers, which allows them to start implementing our promises to Ghana. “I want to express my gratitude to the honorable members of Parliament and Mr. Speaker for their support,” he continued.
