Education Minister: The government would extend student loans to all postsecondary educational institutions.

According to Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, the government is moving to extend the Students Loan Trust Fund’s (SLTF) activities to all postsecondary educational institutions in the country.

The program aims to lessen the financial strain on students attending both public and private universities.

“We are dedicated to helping Ghanaian students who are struggling financially. We will guarantee openness and transparency in the payout process, and we are now analyzing the figures,” he stated.

In addition, he stated that the government was looking for ways to pay for allowances for nursing and teaching students, and that the unpaid bills for 65,000 trainees will likely be settled shortly.

Stress-free

At the University for Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale, Mr. Iddrisu was speaking at a registration and awareness-raising event on the distribution of funding to first-year tertiary students under the “No Fee Stress” program.

About 1,500 students from several educational institutions in Northern Ghana and sections of the Middle Belt attended the event.

According to Mr. Iddrisu’s words, the government has given the SLTF around GH¢500 million, with the purpose of helping private tertiary students with their tuition and other academic-related costs in 2025.
A total of 40,000 students will benefit from the money’ anticipated June distribution, he added, adding that each student would get GH¢2,500 to assist defray their educational costs.

According to him, more than 98,000 students have already used the SLTF application online, demonstrating the industry’s strong need for financial help. According to the minister, a committee has been established to examine how the Free Senior High School policy is being implemented.

The committee is anticipated to submit its findings to the president shortly, he continued.

We are dedicated to enhancing the policy by engaging stakeholders and conducting a constructive evaluation.

All qualified students were urged to sign up and utilize the available assistance by Dr. Saajida Shiraz, the Chief Executive Officer of the SLTF.

She emphasized that the government’s flagship “No Fee Stress” program was a financial support scheme intended to lessen students’ financial burden rather than a loan.

She went on to emphasize the Fund’s dedication to ensuring that education is accessible and stress-free for all Ghanaian students by clarifying that, in contrast to typical student loans, the “No Fee Stress” policy did not demand repayment.
