Sarah Adwoa Safo, a former Dome-Kwabenya MP, has been disciplined by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and referred to the party’s National Disciplinary Committee for recent public statements that were seen to be against party policy.
According to a statement released on Thursday, March 20, 2025, and signed by Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party’s general secretary, Adwoa Safo’s remarks on Joy News’ Pulse Show violated clear directives given to all party members to abstain from public discourse that could incite disenchantment.
“As she is aware, the directive explicitly states that all party members must cease discussing party issues that create unrest, negativism, and disaffection in the media and other related platforms,” said the statement. “Her actions are not only in disregard of this directive but also undermine the Party’s efforts to rebuild and move forward.”
According to the statement, the former lawmaker, who was the last NPP administration’s Minister of State and Deputy Majority Leader, was required to maintain party unity and discipline.
“Her failure to do so not only reflects poorly on her but also in contravention of Article 3(5) of the Party’s constitution, which, among others, enjoins us to promote and defend the good name of the Party,” it said.
The party has decided to forward her case to the National Disciplinary Committee for additional action in light of this.
After losing the 2024 general elections, the NPP has worked to strengthen party cohesion in recent weeks, warning members against making statements in public that would exacerbate internal strife. The party’s recent move demonstrates its unwavering commitment to upholding internal discipline prior to its reform initiatives.
What actions the Disciplinary Committee would suggest in response to Adwoa Safo’s behavior is still unknown.
