According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, efforts are being made to make it easier for Ghanaians who are being deported from the United States to return, reintegrate, and reunite.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, stated during a news conference in Accra on Thursday [April 17, 2025] in advance of the ECOWAS at 50 anniversary launch that the government was taking steps to guarantee that those who have been impacted be greeted with respect upon their return home.
Our foreign service personnel have informed us that there are around 160 Ghanaians on the deportation list. The deportation process is still in progress. We have chosen not to make comprehensive information on them public for humanitarian and human rights reasons,” Mr. Ablakwa clarified.
Although he acknowledged that Ghana’s Embassy in Washington had not provided any noteworthy information since the last report, he reassured that the government is still dedicated to the deportees’ wellbeing.
Our staff is ready to welcome them, help with reintegration, and arrange for their reunion with their families when they arrive. In order to protect our countrymen’s dignity and prevent them from being subjected to excessive media attention, we are also discreetly collaborating with other partners,” he continued.
