A Burkina Faso national was detained for human trafficking in Assin Fosu.

Seven foreign people who were trafficked under false pretenses by a suspect called Zongo Jeon-Baptiste, a 35-year-old Burkinabe, were rescued by the Central North Regional Police Command on Sunday.

Five men and two women from Mali, Togo, La Côte d’Ivoire, and Burkina Faso were discovered imprisoned in a home in the Central Region’s Pump-Side neighborhood, which is a suburb of Assin Fosu.

The victims were detained under dubious circumstances after being enticed with fraudulent employment promises connected to QNET, a global internet marketing corporation, according to the Central North Regional Police Commander, who verified the arrest to the Ghana News Agency (GNA).

According to him, the rescue came after a tip-off on Sunday, June 1, 2025, which resulted in the arrest of eight people, including Zongo Jeon-Baptiste.

The suspect is being placed in police custody for human trafficking and defrauding by false pretense, while the victims were freed and are expected to cooperate with any additional investigations.

This incidence fits into a larger trend of cybercrime and human trafficking in Ghana, where victims from different West African nations are enticed with promises of employment before being taken advantage of, frequently in cybercrime operations.

The Command stated that they will dismantle these human trafficking networks, especially in the region, despite the fact that similar large-scale rescues had just taken place, involving hundreds of victims and several arrests.
