The 2025 Kwahu paragliding festival officially opened Friday with a performance by seven paragliding pilots, including six foreigners and one Ghanaian.
Overlooking Kwahu Atibie and Nkawkaw in the Mpraeso Municipality in the Eastern Region, they demonstrated their flying prowess.
The pilots are Iamina IIea from Romania, Hagen Muhlich from Germany, Eduardo Reategui from Peru, Jonathan Quaye from Ghana, Ed Stein, Chuck Smith, and Blake Pelton from the United States of America (USA).
They successfully landed at the Nkawkaw Sports Stadium after circling the Kwahu region after taking off from Odweanoma Mountain.
One of the pilots, Chuck Smith, told Graphic Online after his first flight that he was hopeful that the weather will be favorable enough to allow for many more flights.
“There is no rain predicted for today, but that might change since no prediction is 100% accurate. Since we began this morning, our flights have gone well, so far so good.
“We have a top notch team, professionals made up of a Ghanaian and other foreign nationals,” he stated.
In an effort to strengthen Ghana’s tourist sector, he noted, the team was prepared to train additional Ghanaians as pilots.
In a speech read on her behalf by his deputy, Yussif Issaka Jajah, Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts Abla Dzifa Gomashie, spoke at the official opening of this year’s paragliding festival on Friday, April 18. She said that the festival has developed into one of Ghana’s premier tourism events over the years, drawing thousands of adventurers, families, and visitors from all walks of life.
According to her, the event highlights Ghana’s famed beauty, friendliness, and kindness in addition to the excitement of flying.
“The region is blessed with vast natural resources, rich culture, and a welcoming people,” said Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, the Eastern Regional Minister, who was thrilled about the paragliding event.
According to her, it is consequently our common obligation to utilize these natural resources in order to support the nation’s communities’ sole progress.
The paragliding event, according to Mrs. Awatey, demonstrates the enormous potential of tourism to spur economic expansion, provide employment, and promote the nation’s cultural legacy.
According to Maame Efua Houadjeto, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, the paragliding festival is a major factor in the GTA’s commitment to making Ghana the top travel destination in West Africa.
