A newly established Ghana Armed Forces Council was sworn in by President John Dramani Mahama, who urged its members to maintain military professionalism and offer stable leadership in the face of regional and domestic security problems.
This is more than just a standard constitutional obligation. It’s a reminder of our shared responsibility to protect the peace, discipline, and integrity of the Armed Forces,” President Mahama stated after administering the oaths of allegiance and secrecy at a brief ceremony on Monday, March 24, 2025, at Jubilee House, Accra.
“Within our security structure, our Armed Forces are more than just an institution. They are a source of pride for all Ghanaians and the guardians of our democracy and sovereignty.
The Armed Forces Council, which was created in accordance with Article 211 of the 1992 Constitution, counsels the President on issues pertaining to military strategy, administration, promotions, and defense policy.
The Chairperson of the reformed Council is Professor Nana Jane Opoku-Agyemang. Chief Warrant Officer Daniel Addo, Brigadier General (Rtd) Fuseni Idrisu, Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Mr. Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, and Miss Nancy Dacwa Ampofo are among the other members.
In addition to thanking the departing Council members for their work, President Mahama gave the newly appointed members his government’s complete support.
In addition to bolstering regional alliances in peacekeeping and counterterrorism operations, he reiterated his administration’s commitment to funding military facilities, logistics, and personnel welfare.
The President stated that the quality of leadership and wise choices made by people in uniform are just as important to the strength of our Armed Forces as their bravery.
