Nigeria’s Super Eagles defeat Rwanda 2-0 to revive chances for the 2026 World Cup.

In Kigali, the Nigerian Super Eagles defeated Rwanda in a crucial match to increase their prospects of making it to the FIFA World Cup in 2026.

But in an attempt to earn a spot at the World Cup in the USA, they defeated the Amavubi 2-0.

Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman spearheaded the Super Eagles’ attack in a 4-4-2 formation against Rwanda under new head coach Erik Chelle.

Nigeria needed an early goal to get the game underway and needed to start strong. An inswinging freekick gave the Super Eagles the lead in the eleventh minute.

Osimhen met a good freekick from Lookman at the far corner, placed his laces on the ball, and tucked it in.
After Osimhen grabbed a loose ball from a Rwandan defender and was through on goal with just the goalie to beat, the Super Eagles doubled their lead before stoppage time in the first half. His second goal of the game came when he dinked the ball over the goalie.

In the second half, Chelle’s team dominated play and prevented Rwanda from generating any opportunities. They couldn’t, however, score any more goals to increase their two-goal advantage in the match.

With six points after the final whistles, the Super Eagles were in fourth position on the standings. They will now focus on their upcoming matchup with Zimbabwe in Uyo.
