On the recommendation of the Armed Forces Council, President John Dramani Mahama has elevated five senior commanders in the Ghanaian Armed Forces to the rank of Major General or higher.
In advance of the official handover by the departing administration, the promotions go into effect on Monday, March 24, 2025.
The appointments were confirmed in a statement issued by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister for Government Communication and Spokesperson to the President. Major General William Agyapong is now the Chief of Defense Staff.
Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing has been appointed Chief of Naval Staff, and Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu has been appointed Chief of Army Staff.
Air Vice Marshal Joshua Lartei Mensah-Larkai will be the Chief of Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces, while Air Vice Marshal Eric Agyen-Frempong has been named Chief of Air Staff.
The President wished the newly appointed officers well and urged them to work together and diligently to protect the country.
“To protect and defend our beloved country, Ghana, the new Service Chiefs must work faithfully, diligently, and with patriotic courage as a united team,” the statement said.
