The Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) president, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, has been elected to the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) Executive Committee (EXCO).
Mr. Okraku was chosen without opposition and will join the 24-member committee of the continent’s governing body for a four-year period from 2025 to 2029.
He joins Ohene Djan, Kobina Hagan, Nana Fredua Mensah, Samuel Okyere, and Kwesi Nyantakyi as the sixth Ghanaian to serve on the CAF Executive Committee.
This election is evidence of Mr. Okraku’s outstanding leadership at the GFA, where, since assuming office in 2019, he has been instrumental in reviving Ghanaian football.
In African football circles, he is well known for his dedication to improving transparency, encouraging women’s football, supporting grassroots football, and concentrating on youth development.
Given Ghana’s lengthy football history, Mr. Okraku’s appointment to the CAF EXCO is viewed as a major chance to represent the country’s interests and advance football in Africa.
With his new position, Ghana will have a greater say in how the sport develops across the continent.
