GH₵100,000 bail was granted to the NDC Sowutuom branch organizer pending appeal.

A National Democratic Congress Sowutuom Branch Organiser who was imprisoned for four years for threatening to kill people during the elections on December 7, 2024, has been released on bail.

Mohammed Ibrahim was given GH₵100,000 bail by the Court of Appeal, along with one surety, while his appeal was ongoing.

The three-member panel, presided over by Justice Senyo Dzamefe, determined that the record included errors.

The appellant must report to the Regional Crime Officer every two weeks, per the court’s direction. Ibrahim had previously requested release awaiting appeal, but the High Court denied his petition.

Nii Kpakpo Samuah Addo, the appellant’s attorney, filed an appeal against the sentence in the Court of Appeal.

Ibrahim was found guilty of publishing false information with the goal to cause fear and panic, threatening harm, and engaging in offensive behavior to disturb the peace. An Accra Circuit Court sentenced him to four years in prison last year.

He received sentences of three years in jail for publishing false information with the goal to hurt others, four years in prison for threatening to harm others, and three years in prison for insulting behavior.

Concurrent sentences were required.

According to the prosecution, Ibrahim claimed to be the head of a revolutionary organization called “Ka na wu,” which translates to “Speak and die” in Twi.

On September 3, 2024, a video depicting Ibrahim donning a red military beret appeared on Facebook, X, and Tik Tok, attracting the attention of the Ghana Police Service.

He said that the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, and the then-Minister of the Interior, Mr. Henry Quartey, were ordering the Ghana Police Service in the Ashanti Region to hire fictitious police officers in order to murder voters on December 7.

Ibrahim claimed that he and his friends were aware of the Minister’s residence and that “they will shoot him” if war breaks out in Ghana.

During the elections, Ibrahim also made threats to use violence.

Ibrahim was arrested when the police declared him wanted on September 10, 2024.

The red beret he wore in the widely shared video was found after a search was done at his home in Sowutuom.
