Following a successful start to 2025, the Black Stars rise in the most recent FIFA rankings.

The Black Stars, Ghana’s senior men’s national team, have improved in the most recent FIFA rankings for the first time since July 2024.

The Black Stars of Ghana have risen one spot from 77th place, where they had been since November 2024, to 76th place in the world’s most recent standings.
A successful start to 2025 propels advancement.

This encouraging development comes after Ghana’s successful start to the 2025 international schedule, which included back-to-back wins in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
For the first time since defeating the Central African Republic in June 2024, the Black Stars triumphed over Chad and Madagascar. They surpassed Israel, who fell two spots in the rankings, thanks to these results.

Africa’s rating remained unchanged.

Ghana’s standing in Africa hasn’t changed despite their ascent to prominence worldwide. Under head coach Otto Addo, the Black Stars want to go up from their current 14th-place ranking on the continent.

Addo and his team will strive for even greater progress in the global and continental rankings as they play more important games later in the year.

Highlights of the global FIFA rankings

Argentina solidified their hold on the top spot in the most recent FIFA rankings by defeating Brazil 4-1 and qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Portugal fell behind the Netherlands, while Spain jumped to second place, surpassing France. Meanwhile, following consecutive victories, Germany has reduced the deficit on Italy.

Mexico’s Nations League victory moved them up to 17th place in North America, right behind the United States, while Canada reached their highest-ever ranking of 30th.

Myanmar made the largest climb, rising seven spots to 162nd position.

Ghana will be keen to maintain their comeback and aim for a higher position in the upcoming months, as they still have the opportunity to qualify for the FIFA World Cup.
