Despite the Auto Museum, Asantehene commissions

“The location creates the impression of traveling both into the future of automobiles and back in time.”

Many others who attended the grand opening of the magnificent vehicle museum founded by business magnate Osei Kwame Despite felt the same way.

The majestic structure, known as the Despite Auto Museum, is a haven of elegance, beauty, and wealth that would captivate any visitor with its size and custom collection of cars.

Because of its size, striking architecture, and plethora of facilities, the museum—which is situated in the center of East Legon, Accra—is best characterized as a city inside a city. It is a one-stop shop for making the most of all five senses of the body: touch, sight, smell, taste, and sound.

Osei Kwame, the museum’s creator, chose to transform his own and other collections into a work of art for public exhibition since he has a deep love and passion for automobiles.

Collections: If the building itself exudes elegance, the collections it holds transcend it, establishing the museum as a remarkable piece of art that can compete with collections from throughout the globe.

A 1929 Mercedes Benz Gazelle, a 1935 Bugatti Type 35, a 1937 Chevrolet Pickup, a 1940 Cadillac, and a 1956 Rolls Royce are among the car royalty’s collections.

The museum features contemporary models of exotic cars including Ferrari, Aston Martin, BMW, and McLaren in addition to the vintage vehicles.

Fuel pumps from the 1940s and motivational quotes about automobiles from well-known automakers like Henry Ford, Karl Benz, and Enzo Ferrari are among the other intriguing collections.

Commissioning The museum’s commissioning, which drew famous and well-known figures from both domestic and international circles, was a real representation of the building itself.

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, who represented President John Mahama, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu, who was the special guest of honor, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Nana Kwame Bediako, a 2024 presidential candidate, and businessman Ibrahim Mahama were among the dignitaries.

Celebrities including football player Agyeman Badu, actress Jackie Appiah, and singer Michael Owusu Addo, often known as Sarkodie, were also there.

The party-themed, all-white event began with a museum tour and ended with a jamboree with several bands that lasted far into the night.

Praise
Mr. Aseidu Nketiah praised Osei Kwame Despite for founding the museum in an interview with the Daily Graphic and encouraged other businessmen to follow in his footsteps by making museum investments.

Africans must be engaged in their past, he added, adding that museums are essential to teaching people to comprehend and value their culture and history.

“Museums are vital educational resources in all societies. The chairman said, “I urge others to set up facilities like this where the young people can learn about our proud history as Africans.”
