The 23-man roster for Ghana’s next 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Chad and Madagascar has been revealed by Black Stars head coach Otto Addo.
Three players who play at home are Benjamin Asare of Accra Hearts of Oak, Kamaradini Mamudu of Medeama SC, and Razak Simpson of Nations FC. The team is captained by Jordan Ayew.
After missing four of Ghana’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers last year due to injury, deputy captain Thomas Partey, who plays for Arsenal, is back in the team. Partey joined the national team in June 2016 and has already made over 50 appearances, contributing leadership and experience.
Additionally included in the team are Jerry Afriyie of CD Lugo and Kamal Deen Sulemana of Southampton FC. Afriyie has kept his spot following an outstanding performance against Niger in November 2024, while Sulemana has fully recovered from a chronic injury.
Christopher Bonsu Baah, a winger from Genk who can play in an offensive midfield role, is another noteworthy addition. After beginning his career with Accra Shooting Stars, Bonsu Baah moved to Sarpsborg 08 in Norway before joining Genk in Belgium in July 2023.
Prior to their match against Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, 2025, the Black Stars will gather for a four-day training camp on Monday, March 17, 2025. After that, on Monday, March 24, 2025, they will go to Morocco to play Madagascar in another Group I match.
With nine points from four games—three victories and one loss—Ghana is now tied with Comoros for second place in Group I. The Black Stars defeated Madagascar 1-0 to start their qualifying campaign, but they lost to Comoros and then defeated Mali and the Central African Republic in quick succession in June 2024.
Important Omissions Because of Injury
Ghana will be missing twelve important players because of injury, despite the team’s impressive selection. Alidu Seidu, Brandon Thomas Asante, Tariq Lamptey, Abdul Mumin, Joseph Aidoo, Abdul Manaf Nurudeen, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, Ibrahim Sulemana, Baba Idrissu, Daniel Kofi Kyereh, Majeed Ashimeru, and Joseph Painstil are on the list.
Alidu Seidu (Anterior Cruciate Ligament-Rehab), Tariq Lamptey (Ankle Ligament Injury), Brandon Thomas Asante (Muscle Tear), and Joseph Painstil (Quadriceps) are among the most notable injuries. Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, who is recuperating from anterior cruciate ligament damage, and Majeed Ashimeru, who is still rebuilding his fitness, will also miss these important games. As Ghana advances in their pursuit of a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Otto Addo will be counting on his chosen team to perform.
