Black Stars are motivated by President Mahama before important World Cup qualifying matches.

Before the Black Stars’ 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Chad and Madagascar, President John Dramani Mahama paid a surprise visit to their training session at the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday and gave words of encouragement.

Players are assured by Mahama that “we haven’t given up on you.”

The President reiterated his belief in the team’s capacity to restore Ghana’s football glory while acknowledging the team’s recent setbacks, notably its inability to earn a spot in AFCON 2024.

“We were not eligible for AFCON. However, the last time we did, we crashed out quite early. Therefore, we haven’t abandoned you,” Mahama promised.

Restoring the Black Stars’ dominance in African football requires cooperation from the players, technical staff, and management committee, he underlined.

“We remain optimistic that the Black Stars will regain their glory.” Additionally, it depends on you, the management committee, and the technical staff,” he said.

The key is dedication on the pitch.

The players’ success depends on their commitment and sacrifice during games, the President reminded them, even if Ghanaians fervently support the squad.

“These feet right here will be the source of the goals. Therefore, sacrifice is required. It requires fortitude. When you play for your teams, we all enjoy watching you, and we hope you would contribute part of that commitment to the national team,” Mahama implored.

Before going to Morocco to play Madagascar on March 24, the Black Stars will play Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on March 21. Ghana’s hopes of making it to the FIFA World Cup in 2026 depend on these games.
