DopeNation, a Ghanaian musical duo, has finally spoken out about their reasons for not submitting their songs for this year’s Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).
In response to rumors spread by DJ Slim, presenter of The Street is Watching podcast, the pair implied that their lack of recognition extends beyond nominations.
In response to a query from a listener who said that DopeNation failed to submit their works and disregarded the awards research team’s efforts to contact them, the pair retaliated, suggesting that the industry had treated them unfairly.
In a post on X (previously Twitter), DopeNation wrote, “We have been fighting a lot that can’t be said out of respect for some people in this hypocritical music space.”
They continued by reminding the audience of problems that had existed since 2021, implying that their choice to remain out of the plan was not made overnight.
But can we all remember from 2021? Perhaps some of us will realize, sir, that this is about more than simply prizes. “This industry will gradually lose its ‘TRUE ARTISTS,'” they said.
Their reaction reveals a deep-seated dissatisfaction with the sector, even though they did not explicitly confirm or deny if the TGMA study team contacted them.
