GH¢1.5 billion is allotted by the government to agriculture through the “Feed Ghana” initiative.

Under the “Feed Ghana” project, the government has set aside GH¢1.5 billion to support food security and agricultural modernization as part of its attempts to raise domestic food production, lower imports, and stabilize prices.

Dr. Forson, who presented the 2025 Budget Statement and Economic Policy, stated that food security is still a national priority, especially as households are still being impacted by food inflation.

“We are investing in agricultural expansion, irrigation, and mechanization to address food inflation and strengthen local production,” Dr. Forson said Parliament.

The money will be utilized to:

• Develop irrigation systems to encourage farming all year round.
• Offer agriculture inputs and fertilizer at discounted prices.
• Encourage storage facilities and mechanization to lower losses after harvest.

In order to boost the production of staple crops like rice, maize, and vegetables, the government is collaborating closely with farmers, agribusinesses, and stakeholders, according to Dr. Forson.

He continued, “The government is also dedicated to helping agro-processing industries to enhance raw materials before they are put on the market.”

Additionally, the funding will help smallholder farmers who have had difficulty obtaining financing because of exorbitant interest rates.
