The Black Stars defeat Chad 5-0 to win the World Cup qualifying tournament.

Ghana’s Black Stars advanced to the top of Group I after putting on a strong effort to defeat Chad 5-0 in their CAF World Cup qualification match tonight (March 21, 2025) at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The team, who had been under a lot of strain after losing six straight games in the qualifiers and failing to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, needed the decisive victory.

But Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo gave the Black Stars the lead in the second minute, and the team quickly settled into the match. The Chadian defense was confused by a risky cross into the box, which gave Semenyo the opportunity to leap and score calmly.

Ghana controlled the game and had the majority of the possession, although at first they had trouble gaining a decisive advantage. That changed in the 31st minute when Ghana’s second goal was headed in by Athletic Club’s Inaki Williams, who leaped high to meet an in-swinging cross.

As the Black Stars kept up their pressure, Antoine Semenyo was taken down in the penalty area five minutes later following a strong run. By the 36th minute, Ghana had a comfortable 3-0 lead thanks to a penalty kick from captain Jordan Ayew.

Ghana controlled play and created a lot of chances in the second half, which followed a similar trend. Mohammed Salisu added a fourth eleven minutes after the restart, rising unopposed to nod in Ernest Nuamah’s skillfully placed corner.

In the 68th minute, Ghana added a fifth goal as the match was well under control. After setting up Jordan Ayew’s cut-back, Nuamah, who had assisted on the fourth goal, turned scorer and put a crisp finish into the bottom corner to complete the victory.

Ghana’s bid to qualify for the World Cup is strengthened by the win, which puts them two points ahead of Madagascar in second place and three points ahead of Comoros in third place in Group I with 12 points.
